St Marys School
Umbaco has been asked to rejuvenate this tired school courtyard with a focus on diverse use of space, using natural play elements. Our brief from P&C was to create a place to ”inspire with unique experience for children” while fitting into the school’s curriculum. In collaboration with the parents’ representatives this rather tight courtyard has been transformed into a playful oasis including a performance stage / lunch seating / hang out / veggie garden / sandpit and the ‘boat’. Custom made elements based on our concepts have been further embellished by students themselves. The ‘boat’ named S. M. Friend-ship stands proudly in the centre with a unique flag and balustrades decorated by the students. “…this is an amazing way to learn and I wish I was here from Kindy” … was only one of many comments by students.
