Arncliffe is a booming area with a high demand for quality open space with appropriate play opportunities amongst high density new apartment blocks. This park was amalgamated from two separate lots, so the first design task was to integrate both parts to feel as one. We then developed the larger portion of the park into a playspace. One priority was to provide for many young families a safe circuit track for trikes and scooters with fun challenges for the young ones to test and improve their riding abilities – this track set the shape of the playspace. While we separated the more challenging senior play and the more accessible junior play, we brought them together through a central turfed picnic area. Also, some of the finishes and patterns used in the park reflect the natural history of the location as a traditional fish spooning area and mudflats with crabs and shells.
The existing grassy swale is thickly planted with native grasses and shrubs enabling incidental access through to nature play. This project is currently under construction and we look forward to it being completed.
