Granville Multipurpose Centre
This originally outdated centre received a total refurbishment including new library, community centre and new swimming pool. Extensive landscaping was associated with the transformation of the existing surrounds. Umbaco was engaged from the beginning to devise landscape concepts, to prepare the landscape components of the DA application and detail documentation, and to provide landscape construction services. A wide open plaza is projected through to the main entry to the library with a new playspace located at the rear of plaza. For the surface finishes we took inspiration from the site’s former history as a tweed factory.
The existing Anzac Memorial was preserved and is now seamlessly integrated with the new plaza. The new sport courts and basketball court accommodates the needs of local youth and families, including a separate BBQ area.
Extensive latent contamination set back progress on the site. We worked with the overall project design team and the builder through a number constraints and budget limitation to deliver a complete project which is due to be completed by end of August 2020.
