Nestled within dense bushland on the edge of a national park in Chatswood, this thoughtfully refurbished reserve provides immersive natural setting for recreation and relaxation.
Umbaco responded to the client brief with a design that balances architectural restraint with engaging play opportunities. The playspace is carefully integrated into the site’s natural slope, featuring a bespoke series of timber decks that hug the slope. Sandstone steppers are incorporated throughout, reinforcing a strong connection to the surrounding landscape.
The result is an open and inviting environment that encourages a range of activities—from informal gathering and exploration to climbing, sliding, and traversing a suspended rope bridge and hanging out on a bird’s nest.
A gently winding pathway leads visitors through the playspace to a BBQ area designed by WMK Architects. Native planting frames the experience, extending across an existing creek and linking the play and picnic area. Together, these elements create a cohesive and tranquil landscape that supports community use and connection with nature.
