Hills Market Place

Hills Flower Market has been a dominant feature on a stretch of Mona Vale Road in Terrey Hills for more than 30 years. Over the years the site has undergone many transformations as its visionary owners expanded  this little hub. The main focus of Hills Flower Market is the production and sale of exquisite cut flowers and a associated range of homewares. Umbaco was engaged to provide design concepts for the outdated frontage of Mona Vale Road, as well as the rear access from Kyora Road. In addition, Umbaco provided an overall site Master Plan to enable future planning and improvement on the site.

Initially we undertook the visual assessment of Mona Vale Road. This identified some visual clues on how to improve appearance of the frontage. A number of options were presented to the client including the studies of appropriate front fencing (pictured left). The “horse” was identified as a recognisable landmark feature and we suggested that it be moved from its location at the vehicular entry to the front.

Plantings were integral to our concepts as they are a significant part of  the ‘image’ of Hills Flower Market. Many species used along the front fence are being used as cut flowers by the Market. During the design process we consulted enthusiastically with the owners of Hills Flower Market. The landscape works were completed in early 2019, closely following our documentation.
