The Infants’ Home
The Infants Home has been dedicated to childcare services for over 145 years. The brief for this project reflected the client’s dynamic, innovative and integrated approach to early childhood education based on many years of experience and wisdom.
The key task was to create a playful, challenging and stimulating outdoor play area where the children could re-connect with nature. Our collaboration and extensive consultation with the Home staff resulted in a nurturing and supportive environment where children with all abilities will feel safe and at home. Through the use of natural elements and layering of outdoor rooms, our design provides a balance between reflective and busy places. Children will find quiet hammock areas, special toddler crawling places and playhouses, bridges and balancing elements, a ‘Beach Hut’ or sandy bay, or the opportunity to play hide and seek through the trees. A varied and wholesome play experience!
