Thomas H Halton Galleon
Lake Macquarie City Council on the NSW Central Coast is currently developing a large regional playspace in the Thomas H Halton Park. A custom built timber galleon was proposed as a main feature of this seaside location. Umbaco was engaged by the Council to develop the concept design for the galleon.
The brief was for a large galleon at least 20 meters long with a broad variety of challenging play components and which is partially accessible via a ramp. Our aim was to create truly unique ship that will take kids on amazing discovery journey.
The connections between the lower deck and the upper deck are packed with many interesting activities. Inside the boat you find a hang out bunk with a cabin windows decorated with bugs, and of course oak barrels.
There are many entries and exits and interconnections within the boat including ladders, tunnels, nets, climbing wall and cabin vortex. For a quick exit children will enjoy a fire pole or an exciting curved slide or just a shoot through the lid opening to the lower deck.
Older children and parents can explore a more challenging climb from main deck to the 6m high lookout mast where they can enjoy the view of the Macquarie Lake foreshore.
We have combined natural timber materials and rope with splashes of colour in accessories and coloured glass bricks to give the boat life and sense of fun.
